2004 Orange Prize for Fiction announced

This year's Orange Prize for Fiction has been won by Andrea Levy for her novel, Small Island. T
he prize honours the best novel of the year written by a woman published in the UK and is now in its ninth year.

More information about the prize and the award ceremony that took place on 8 June 2004 can be found on the Orange Prize's official web site.

Minette (standing, right) was one of five judges chosen to select the winner of this year's award. Also on this year's panel were Sandi Toksvig (seated, centre); Karen Cunningham (seated, left); Baroness Helena Kennedy (standing, left); and Katharine Viner (seated, right).
